  • Emotional Dysregulation
  • Self Acceptance/Self Hatred

Untangling these blind spots somatically through breathwork enables you to release these emotions and internal blockages to finally move on and build a better life. This is how we turn off the automatic and become aware of our choices.

Somatic Emotional Release (SER)

Trauma research is pointing to unresolved emotions or traumatic events being trapped in the body’s tissues and the nervous system. These experiences may lead to chronic tension, restricted movement and other physical or emotional imbalances. SER facilitates the release and integration of those emotions allowing for healing and restoration of the physical and emotional bodies. Somatic BreathWork Journeys are one of the modalities in which SER can occur presenting as possible physical outcomes: shaking, crying, trembling, screaming, laughing, stretching, fascial unwinding, etc.

Many of these are considerations and techniques can be adapted to be suitable. Better to be safe than sorry so when in doubt, sit it out. How we breathe affects the nervous system in 1 of 3 ways: Activation, Balancing, and Down Regulation.

The ideal way to breathe in daily life (as studied for over 30 years at the Heartmath Institute) is known as Resonant or Coherent breathing.

This kind of breathing has a balancing effect on the nervous system through an equal length of inhale to exhale like 5:5.

The inhales need to come through the nose due to Nitric Oxide (no2) production and the exhales can either go through the nose or mouth.

Question 1: What is the “Best Way” to Breathe?

1
  • Improve the strength of the muscles involved in taking a breath.
  • Increasing cardio strength increases the ability to breathe better, especially under stress.
  • Controlling your breath and heartbeat allows control of the nervous system and the emotion center of the brain.
  • mental strength and confidence dramatically improves
  • Decrease Stress
  • Increase your anaerobic threshold, meaning the ability to perform at a high level when your activity rate increases
  • Handle higher levels of Carbon Dioxide
  • Increase Oxygen in the body
  • Breath Training increases oxygenation of cells and strengthening of the immune system hugely.

Question 2: Breath Holds - What are the benefits?

2
  • loss of health
  • Poor Fitness
  • compromised athletic performance
  • contributes to anxiety
  • asthma
  • Headaches
  • Fatigue
  • Insomnia
  • Heart Problems
  • increased risk of respiratory infection
  • obesity.

Question 3:What is Chronic Overbreathing?

3

Chronic Overbreathing is unconsciously breathing through the mouth and taking longer inhales then exhales. Chronic Overbreathing leads to:

Steven Porges, PhD discovered the Polyvagal theory. Which links the mammalian autonomic nervous system evolution to social behavior, highlighting the importance of the physiological state in how behavioral problems and psychiatric disorders are expressed. Essentially, how we breathe directly affects the intensity of symptoms and feelings that come with psychiatric disorders and behavioral issues.

Question 4: What is Polyvagal Theory?

4
  • personal & spiritual transformation
  • A sense of inner peace and contentment
  • A feeling of connection to something larger than oneself
  • A sense of newfound purpose or meaning in life
  • A desire to learn and grow spiritually
  • A feeling of being guided by a higher power or presence
  • A sense of being more present in the moment andless
  • Reactive to stress
  • A desire to live a more authentic, values-driven life
  • A feeling of being more connected to others and to the world around you
  • A sense of liberation or release from traumas, complexes, negative patterns or behaviors
  • A feeling of increased clarity and insight into one's own life and the world.

LOVE TO LIVE LIFE, EXPERIENCE ALL YOU CAN!

Ready to take the next step?

The deliberate breathing takes a lot of energy and focus to work through the initial discomfort but the juice is worth the squeeze because when it's all done the euphoric and happy sense of connectedness carries on for several days. This makes for an excellent jumping point to easier maintain a positive attitude and overcome any of life's discouraging stressors.  I initially noticed the same arm and hand immobilization and numbness. They stayed pinned against my chest frozen like I was signaling the number four with each hand. I had to remind myself this cramping stage is normal and only temporary.  I also encounter a bit more restlessness in my legs this time around. At first this made staying on task somewhat distracting but subsided about halfway into the workup. Caleb's excellent coaching made the difference to help me focus on the objective and keep up my breathing rhythm.  The screaming portion seems odd unless you try it firsthand. I use a pillow again to not alarm others who might then distract me from the process by showing concern. The feeling afterwards can only be described as amazing relief and is a necessary component for receiving the full spiritual renewal. The breath holding stage is incredibly easy and fun because the circulatory system is hyper oxygenated by that point. This is where the mental journey becomes extremely vivid. I experienced pleasant memories from the age of two and three walking with my grandmother and stopping at a corner store for her to buy me a box of apple juice. The sensation of connected love was a cherished gift to suddenly remember after so many years. With Caleb's helpful guidance it astounds me how effective this process is at bringing out good memories. I recommend to anyone looking for an attitude boost that helps kick start their morning to be brave and invest in themselves by taking this journey. This is what real medicine looks like. It's okay to be skeptical, it'll still bring the desired psychological results because that's just how this physical process operates. Caleb is very attentive and supportive throughout the entire session. He thoroughly explains the process and what to expect beforehand. His role is crucial in ensuring the therapy is successful. As any feelings of distress emerge his constant reassurance through it builds a bond of trust which shows me that he is doing an incredible thing for the sake of others. I can't thank him enough for the sense of empowerment he shares in his teachings. I feel blessed to know him, he's a good man doing great things.  Learn how to make breathing a priority and it will change your life for the better. It is how God intends us to function by his design, there's no tool to realize which is more significant than that.

My second intensive body and mind breathing session was similar to my first experience.
